THE THIRDEYE DISPUTE
Communiqué by Class War in response to the hijacking of
our website redirect. 1st December 2001.

There are three anarchist groups in Auckland at time of writing. Class War, Revolting Punk Ninjas, and Thirdeye.

At the National Anarchist Conference in Christchurch, in the absence of any delegates from the first two groups, Thirdeye got into some sneaky gossiping, and attempted to present itself as the "only" anarchist group in Auckland. They suggested that other comrades should boycott all contact with any group other than themselves! (Do we detect megalomania or paranoia here?) It is notable that the Thirdeye comrades all have a background in the trotskyist movement – old habits die hard (if at all.)

We shall ignore this slandering, and concentrate on what to us is the crux of the dispute between us. Over the past year or so, Class War has undertaken a vigorous advertising campaign to promote anarchism and our website, using the website redirect name: http://forward.to/classwar

We noticed recently that this web redirect has been sneakily altered to make all such requests to view our site instead go direct to the Thirdeye site! Needless to say, we were most indignant that our URL had been usurped by others, and fired off a demand to Thirdeye that they desist in their deviancy and restore our URL to us.

This demand achieved two things. Firstly, sarcastic bumbling memos from Thirdeye führer Scott, accusing us of having imbibed some drug. We investigated further, and found to our horror that this malicious change on our redirect was done by a Class Warrior as a practical joke. S/he had been planning to restore the link after a few days, but lost the passwords.

We then sent an apology for wrongly accusing them to Thirdeye, and requesting they give us an assurance that this action was NOT taken by them. (Such a statement is needed so we can approach the redirect firm to get the problem fixed.) We got the usual bullshit back from the irrepressible Scott. But we did get a statement of innocence from the Thirdeye webmistress who at least has the courtesy to be up front.

In conclusion, we now have official Class War policy that we will have nothing to do with any group or united front that includes the notorious Scott. While we maintain full co-operation with the Punk Ninjas and other anarchist groups worldaround, as far as the Thirdeye is concerned, they do not exist. We won't make judgments on whether or not these chatfest fans are genuine anarchists: you can make that call yourself.

Following is some of the correspondence we've had with Thirdeye:

Hello Class War,

Re the forward.to url I can only reply that I don't know how this has happened, and since we didn't have anything to do with directing it to our site, we can't change it. I assume someone has altered it at your end.
Likewise the email address I suppose - we don't have any passwords etc.

Cheers,
Editor
Thirdeye site

some of you will have heard of an anarchist 'group' in
Auckland which calls itself Class War. Though no one
belonging to this outfit seems ever to be sighted
above-ground, their name and postal address is
occasionally seen on incomprehensible mails and
stickered lamp posts. In recent days, the 'Class War
Information Service' has been testing its already-slim
credibility by sending me a series of very strange e
mails, which I have reproduced below. As far as I'm
concerned, there are three rather sad things about
Class War's latest e mail 'campaign':

1 Class War is carying on with this stuff when genuine
leftists, including anarchists, are busting their guts
trying to keep a class-based anti-war movement alive
nationwide, not to mention oppose Labour-Alliance's
importation of Bush's creeping police state.

2 Class War has had its details published in a list of
'anarchist/libertarian socialist contacts' in at least
one place, and at least one person has asked me about
them, imagining them to be 'Auckland's anarchist
group'.

3 The name 'Class War' refers not only to class
struggle and class struggle anarchism in general but
also more specifically to a real, mass membership
British group with a proud history of working class
consciousness and militancy.

The e mails I'm referring to will confirm the opinion
universally held by anarchists who have had 'contact'
with Class War. At the conference we discussed giving
this 'group' the cold shoulder; clearly, this is the
correct thing to do, and 'their' contact details
should be removed from any publications/websites they
still appear upon.

Sorry to sound so stuffy self-righteous, but I'm
frustrated by this stuff!

Gee Scott, you ARE a snob!

Just coz no Class Warriors made it to the Chch Conference (due to everyone going to a Punkfest in Wgtn the same weekend!) is no reason to be piggy and pre-judge us in our absence. And despite none of our troops being in Chch, we did at least publicise that event, both on our website and via posters, which is more than the thirdeye bothered to do.

Class War now has a policy of avoiding any group containing Scott. Thanx for the invite to your chatfest about the war, but no thanks.
